Flying over the grandly majestic Rockies of the western part of our beautiful nation, my soul is again in awe. Not just of this created land, but in awe of the land’s Creator. I sit marveling at the majesty and beauty of the One this land, in part, reflects. My soul is reminded today of the glorious reality that our God is our Rock.
“He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; (because of His stability and unwavering character), I shall not be greatly shaken” Psalm 62:1-2. Over and over in Scripture, we find God described as a rock, a stronghold, a fortress, the salvation of those who trust Him. God is Who He is; He will not change. His plans, promises, and purposes will not be altered or moved.
What a comfort this is to me – to my soul and life – at this very moment. Despite all my soul’s wandering, despite all of life’s uncertainty…… my standing with God at this moment, my whole life is anchored and secure in the unshakeable, steadfast love of God through Jesus our Lord. What a joy to remember my salvation, life & future rests on the Rock of His grace alone, on the Rock of the unchanging Person of Jesus and the unchangeable oath of God (Hebrews 6:13-20). What a beautiful thing to remember that our relationship with God is on the basis of the never-changing, all-sufficient work of Jesus on this earth that is complete now and forever….. to be received by faith as a treasure. And what a treasure it is!
God is our Rock, our fortress. He, His character, His promises, His purposes in this world, His plan for my life, His presence in my heart will never change. Great is His faithfulness! Keep your eyes fixed, your gaze steady on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith, the firm anchor of your soul (Hebrews 12:2). As you continue on your journey, move forward with complete confidence, hope and peace. Not because of anything in you…. but because of God, our Rock.
Oh God, thank you for being Who you are – I praise you. Thank you for being my Rock. Thank you that my salvation rests on you and not me. Thank you for your undeserving love through Jesus. Thank you for faith that enables me to believe and to know you as my Rock. Thank you for your faithfulness to your promises and your Son who you have given me. Increase my faith and love, Lord. “Lead me to the Rock (you) who is stronger than I, for you have been my refuge, a strong tower against my enemy” (Psalm 61:2-3). Be my stability, strength, fortress, hope.
God, I praise you for being a Rock through all of life’s circumstances. In each and every season, with every single decision, in all of life’s ups and downs and all arounds, you are the same. Despite all the thoughts, longings & uncertainties stirring through my heart and mind, you remain unchanged. You are a constant. Your presence brings me strong and abiding peace.“
